Ruta Pirangi, who taught herself to weave complex designs over the last five years, will be passing on her knowledge through a free course at the Cook Islands Tertiary Training Institute.
Pirangi has crafted her weaving work over the years, working up to creating masterful woven archways for weddings.
The Rangaranga Kikau course caters for all skill levels, from weaving simple raurau baskets out of coconut leaves, to more advanced creations.
Some slots in the two-week course are already full, so those wanting to learn the art of weaving should get in quick.
The course runs from February 17-27 on most weeknights from 5.30-7.30pm, at CITTI’s trades and technology campus in Arorangi.
To enrol or ask questions about the course, call CITTI on 22628, come by and pick up an enrolment form or email Violet Tisam ( violet.tisam@citti.edu.ck) or Amelia Borofsky ( aborofsky@gmail.com).
